TANYA’S Manifesto

Introduction and Intention

Hello and welcome to Tanya’s Manifesto.

Tanya’s manifesto is intended to explain to you who is Tanya Raabe-Webber the artist, what do I do and how I do it so that you'll know what to expect from a collaboration with me.

It is a declaration of my artistic vision, and the different ways I work, expressing my artistic philosophy and cultural identity.

Tanya’s Manifesto is a living artwork, a painted self portrait that reveals a series of visual prompts and phrases, taking you on a multi layered journey into my world!

I’m often asked about my work, my artistic identity and creative direction as a disabled artist. So it occurred to me that by creating an artistic manifesto, you could explore the 'Tanya way' and enjoy delving deeper into my work as an artist.

For me this manifesto is a great way to reflect and focus on what I believe in and what is important to me as an artist as I enter into a new phase in my career.

Tanya’s manifesto showcases a series of high profile commissions and projects for you to read alongside testimonials from the people I work with.

Meet TANYA the Artist

I am born - Scarborough. I emerge into the world a disabled artist. I draw. I paint. I illustrate a lived experience.

Now based in Shropshire I work in a hybrid collaborative world.

I am a renowned disabled visual artist, challenging the notion of identity within contemporary portraiture. Exhibiting my portraits of significant disabled cultural figures at the Venice Biennale in 2024 has been a pivotal moment.

I have over 40 years of experience working in the visual arts sector developing, devising and delivering many high profile projects, including working with the National Portrait Gallery, TATE, BBC, National Trust, Apple.com and Sense as an artistic director, disability arts consultant and trainer, and commissioning artist in residence.

How I Work

Inclusion and diversity are at the core of everything I do. The social model of Disability and a lived experience are fundamental principles of inclusion for everyone.

I am a people person and I’m always intrigued by the people I paint. I work with the clients brief to produce extraordinary portraits in traditional paint and digital fusion.

I work collaboratively, creating informal inclusive environments, both online and in real life.

I work with a person/organisational centred inclusive approach with four decades of experience to draw from.

I am warm, welcoming, open and flexible, listening and responding with a personalised approach.

I actively promote inclusive practice and elevate marginalised voices.

I create safe and inspiring spaces where individuals and communities can explore and develop their artistic identity.

Tanya’s cultural practice encapsulates creating, encouraging others and activism
